What is the Nutrition Education Coalition?

The Nutrition Education Coalition provides information to the public
on nutrition and physical activity issues and collaborates with community partners to influence social policies that encourage
healthy lifestyles. We provide educational programs for professionals and the public and participate in media campaigns to promote healthy eating habits.
What do we do?
The Nutrition Education Coalition is a member
of the Wellness Council of Northeast Georgia. The Wellness Council meets
on the last Wednesday of the month at the Oconee County Civic Center in Watkinsville,
starting at 9:00am.
The Nutrition Education Coalition meets separately every other month immediately
following the Wellness Council meeting. Each quarterly meeting features
a presentation by a health professional. Themes have included
Obesity/Weight Management, Vitamins and Supplements, Physical Activity,
School Nutrition, Food Insecurity and Food Safety.
The NEC provides local schools and agencies
with materials to celebrate National Nutrition Month (March) and Fruit
and Vegetable Month (September).
The NEC distributes information about nutrition and fitness at several community events, including the Athens Area
Maternity and Baby Fair.

The Coalition also developed the H2O Drink
-Think Water display,
which provides information about the amount of sugar in common
beverages. The display has been so popular that it is now being
offered for sale.
